THE ROLE OF YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER

The role of the teacher, guide or director in a Montessori classroom is to prepare and maintain the environment and observe and remove any obstacles that may hinder this natural development. Along with observation, your child’s teacher gives “lessons” to show how to use the self-teaching materials. The teacher is always available to assist and guide your child. The teacher’s purpose is to stimulate the child’s enthusiasm for learning. Without interfering with your child’s natural desire for self-teaching and to become independent, the teacher helps your child work through his or her own individual cycle of activities. In this way, children truly understand according to their own unique needs and capabilities.

Our school location

Embedded in evergreen rice fields, surrounded by tropical and sacred trees on the horizon, there is a hidden gem of architectural uniqueness:

A holistic Montessori school (Octagon shape) in Banjar Panglan, Pejeng village, near Ubud, with authenticity and originality in harmony with Balinese culture and international flair.

OUR VISION

The Sekolah Montessori Erdkinder in Ubud provides national and international children in Bali with a high-quality, international Montessori Education to foster their independence, critical thinking, creativity, respect and responsibility to self, to others, and to the earth.

The Sekolah Montessori ERDKINDER Bali is passionate to share in the future Montessori Education with interested Indonesian & International teachers. A Montessori Training Center, based on international standards, is to be established in the medium and long term.

OUR HISTORY

After designing a beautiful, ecologically orientated school building, Sekolah Montessori Erdkinder Bali opened its doors in 2019 with an initial group of 12 children.

This was the result of a long journey by our foundress, Gertraud Neuner who had successfully completed a Bachelor degree in Education as well as an intensive Montessori Diploma Training at ÖMG ( based on Association Montessori Internationale standards) and was working as a Montessori Principal/Guide in Austria.

At the beginning of 2016, Gertraud found herself in Bali, Indonesia, receiving a vision to open a holistic Montessori school project near Ubud.

There were many challenges on the way, but upon meeting Tjok Agung Kusuma Yuda (Head of the Royal family in Pejeng), who agreed to be co-founder, this vision became reality.

Together with the support of Wilma Grier, (an experienced Montessori trainer with over 30 years of Montessori preschool classroom experience, mentor and former principal of Montessori School Bali), initial training of Balinese teachers took place.

Gertraud continues to provide on-going training for school staff.
